- Help me if you can.
-
- I need advice on which computer programming language to choose. I've narrowed
- down the possibilities to VisualBasic and C++.
-
- PURPOSE
- I want to learn to progam JAVA applets for inclusion in Worldwide Web pages.
-
- BACKGROUND
- I have 28 years experience programming IBM computers. That experience includes
- both high and low level languages, from assembler to COBOL. I have strong
- programming skills, so learning a new language should be easy.
- I have a little experience with BASIC, none with C or C++.
-
- CONSIDERATIONS
- The most important consideration is support and compatibility. I want to make sure
- my choice is the one that eventually is adopted by mainstream developers. I have
- read that many vendors are considering supporting proprietary formats. Initially, I
- will be writing applets for use with Netscape when their JAVA browser is released.
-
- Other considerations are easy of learning (the language), speed of execution,
- graphic capabilities, etc.
-
- If you respond to this, you might also chime in with your recommendations as far
- as software is concerned. I have seen many VisualBasic and C++ programming
- packages on the market. I would prefer it to be royalty-free.
-
- Thank you for your time and response. If you wish to email: RESUME@NR.INFI.NET
